Race Talk: Over in Oz: Smart Missile for stud
Comment | Author: glenn watson | Mar 9, 2012
One of Australia’s most talented three-year-old colts has been retired and will commence stud duties later this year alongside Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield Stud.
The Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile has run his last race.
Smart Missile retires as the only horse to have claimed the scalp of Sepoy at two when defeating the champion colt of his generation in the Group II Todman Stakes.
Two weeks later, Smart Missile robbed himself of the chance to win the Group I Golden Slipper when going off in the barriers before he was sensationally scratched.
The son of Fastnet Rock returned at three with victory in the Group III Run to the Rose (1300m) before a close second to Manawanui in the Group I Golden Rose (1400m).
"The best raw talent I have seen since Redoute's Choice,” Arrowfield chairman John Messara said of Smart Missile.
