Race Talk: Bulginbaah's colours fly high

TRACKMAN

Bulginbaah's colours were to the fore at Hawera today when Emma Lucy broke through for her first win.

Trained by Bulginbaah's Catherine Wilson and ridden by little used apprentice Jess Shackleton, she swooped on the lead early in the run home and held a comfortable margin to the line.

Bred by Wanganui's Pete Smith, she is still very raw, but looks capable of progressing through the grades.

Despite limited opportunities, Shackleton has scored 13 wins this season.

Lisa Allpress continued her hot streak with victory on Valley of Pentire in the fifth. The 4yo daughter of Pentire took 13 starts for her first win, but looks to be making up lost ground in a hurry.

It was Allpress' 89th win of the season.

There was no luck for Allpress on husband Karl's well-backed Lady Isabelle in the sixth. Maybe one for later.

James McDonald, who missed three winners at Waverley because of illness, had one win, a last gasp lunge on Above Stratum, while Killarney Lass scored her win at start No 28.
