Sydney jockey Blake Shinn has been taken to hospital with an ankle injury after being dislodged from a horse during a barrier trial at Rosehill today, Racenet reports.

Shinn was conscious when transferred by ambulance to hospital.

The incident happened when the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey was aboard an unraced two-year-old Calamba.

"I spoke to Blake and he's in good spirits ,” Shinn’s manager Tony Crisafi said."He said the horse hit a peg [temporary rail], stumbled, and he came off.

"We are hoping it’s a sprain and not broken but we won’t know the extent of the problem until after he’s had X-rays.

"It’s not the leg he broke on Melbourne Cup day a couple of years ago so that’s good news.”
