Fraser Auret proved again he was a trainer on the rise when he prepared his parents' mare Mini Pearl to win the $50,0000 Manawatu Breeders at big odds at Awapuni today.

Riding to instructions, Mark Hills shot the five-year-old to the lead 1000m out and she fought them all off for victory by a head at 31-1.

Outsider Rumour Has It Now was second, just ahead of favourite O'Fille, who couldn't quite reproduce her usual whirlwind finish.

Another long shot, Gold Cape, was fourth, shut out of a gap late, while second favourite Chaparrone put in late bounds for sixth. She will now go out for a spell.

"An enormous thrill to do this for my parents," said Auret. "It's hard to find the words. But we've got black type with her now and that's just great."

Hills said he used his initiative and looped the field when the pace slackened mid-race.

"The only time I thought was beaten was on the line."

Earlier, David Haworth's Post d'France returned to winning form in his first attempt past 1600m

He is out of Creil, an Avondale Cup winner, so staying could be his caper from now.
